I am looking for any information regarding Katharine/Catherine David and Thomas Tadlock. I do not know where they were married or when, probably in Tennessee. Oldest child is a daughter, Nancy Tadlock b 1812 in TN and married Ward Smith Thomas in Jackson Co., IN 1833 and settled in Marion Co., IL.

1870 census for Marion County, Illinois

    Ward S. Thomas 59 NY
    Nancy 56 KY

Nancy had five (5) brothers: Asa, David, Richard, Edward, and John. (My wife's line descends from Edward)

Nancy's father Thomas Tadlock Jr was descended from Thomas Tadlock and Sarah Sally Sumner. Thomas descended from Thomas C. Tadlock and Sarah Elizabeth Jane Jones. Thomas C. was descended from Edward Tatlocke (arrived in America 1702 near James River) and Elizabeth (?). Edward was descended from William Tatlocke and Jane Spencer.

Nancy's family was living in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana in 1830 and started during the early part of the 1830's to move to Illinois. Nancy stayed and married.

I have researched Dr. Alex.Brabson Tadlock, early physician in Knoxville,Tennessee. He was s/o Sevier Tadlock and Mary Blair, Greene County, Tennessee. My research does not include any living children of this man. However, he left a large estate, most went to Maryville College, Maryville,Tennessee. He did leave some $$ to the old Providence Presby Church, Washington Co,TN. Maybe a nephew?margowebb@aol.com

Is anyone closly related to Dr. Tadlock or his family? I don't know how but my father had his family bible which now is in my keeping. If you are family please advise.

My Great aunts old records show Dr. Alexander Brabson Tadlock was a Army surgeon and discovered the germ carring powers of the fly.

His father Lewis Tadlock (Petition of 1787) married to Jane Blair of N. Carolina

Alex had one brother Sevier Tadlock who married Mary Blair and lived in Tn. They had 3 sons one of which was Rev. James Doak Tadlock. In his first marraige (8/8/1826) to Susan K. McLin (B. 1826 D. 1874)he had 9 children.
In his second marriage to Mrs. Susan Deadrick McClanahan (1877) he had 2 children.

I have the names & Dates for most of the decendents from them but I don't know where it ties into my Family. John E. Tadlock, of Plymounth, Hancock Co., Illinois (born around 1805-10)
Dr. Alexander Brabson Talock's father was Sevier Tadlock and his mother was Mary 'Polly" Blair, d/o John Blair "a miller" in early Washington County

I have since posting the message determined that Dr. Alexander Bradson Tadlock was my grandfather's uncle. You are absolutely right about the bulk of his estate going to Maryville. He did leave a small amount to some of his nephews and nieces. He had a son that preceeded him in death. Through this connection I have been able to get back several generations of my family line.
I have pages of research on Sevier Tadlock & Polly Blair Tadlock listing some info on all his children. Researched in Washington/Greene County.
Lots on Lewis Tadlock, father of Sevier and some info on all his children. 2 wives:Charlotte Padfield & Jane Blair.I would be interested in getting what info you might have on
Lewis Tadlock and Landon Carter Tadlock. Landon was my great
grandfather and Lewis would have been my gg. I've just begun to work on family history and don't have very much.
Landon's son Edward Franklin was my grandfather then my
    father was James W.

I am the direct line of Lewis, Landon Carter, Samuel K., Talbert C., & Raymond Tadlock if I can help please let me know. My father spent many years doing family research and then pasted it on to me when he died. Mom called it junk but it was quit a collection of information, documents and other related items. The Milburnton Church Cemetary is the resting place of many family from Tadlocks & Milburns and most of my direct linage.

Greetings, I am trying to find the resting place of Mary "Polly" Tadlock who was married to Michael H Martin in Washington County TN. I find them on the 1860 census. He apparently died that year. I have not been able to find her after that, or their son James who was living with them. Am searching for info on James Wiley Tadlock and Frances (Nappie) P. Wallace. I have been lead to beleive that the Tadlocks are of Indian blood. trying to track a Joshua Tadlock who had a son named Wylie, and one named Albert. Wylie is my "Tadlock" ancestor and I can't get farther back than the 1810 Census in Chesterfield County SC for Joshua.Dear Glenda,
My father, James Arthur Tadlock was born in Louisville KY on Jan.11,1900 and died in Miami FL in 1952. He was the son of Walter and Sophronia, nee Dezarn.
Do you know anything about this family? Do you know what the origin of the name Tadlock is? Irish, British????

Carmen, are you related to any Tadlock's? When I wrote this message I thought that Jane Blair & Lewis Tadlock were my Noncy's parents but I have since found out that they are not. I have met and have been in contact with my Tadlock cousins who gave me the correct information. My Nancy was born to Thomas Tadlock Jr & Catherine David in 1813 in Tennessee. Nancy married Ward Smith Thomas in Jackson Co, IN in 1833 and then moved on to Marion Co., Illinois. Nancy & Ward are my great grandparents. I have their marriage certificate. Several of Nancy's siblings moved into Illinois, some in Marion Co and some in Gallatin Co and then moved on to Wise Co, Texas. Nancy Louise Tadlock is the niece of my great grandmother.
If you are related to the Tadlocks, several of us have websites at My Family.com. You would need an invitation to view the information. Let me know.

This couple married in Jackson Co in 1833. Doing an exact search on Ancestry for the year 1830, I get two Tadlocks in Carr, Jackson Co, IN and there is a John Thomas at Carr in 1830. From that, I'm thinking Benjamin Tadlock could have been Nancy's father and John Thomas could have been Ward's? Does anyone have clues? Thanks.
The other Tadlock in Carr is Chalkey there are only two people in that household.

Not sure about the parents of Ward, but Nancy's parents were Thomas Tadlock Jr and Catherine David (which is part of my wife's line)

1850 census for Marion County, Illinois

    Ward Thomas 39 NY
    Nancy 37 TN
Ira 15 IN (this is Isaac)

    Andrew Thomas 5 IL
    Ward 2 IL

I found an E. Jackson Tadlock, son of Thomas and Katharine (Jackson?) Tadlock who were mentioned in his will ated 8 Jan. 1850, along with the eldest daughter Nancy and a son, John Tadlock. It's in the Marion County, IL court records, file 122, book B, page 11.

The will names Thomas' wife Katharine, eldest daughter Nancy, 2 sons E. Jackson Tadlock and John Tadlock. You should be able to write for a copy from Marion County, IL with the file, book, and page numbers I've given.

HI, I believe that the Nancy you are referring to in this message is my 2nd great grandmother, Nancy Tadlock b ca 1812/1815 TN.. She married Ward Smith Thomas in Jackson Co, IN 1833 and they moved to Marion Co., IL. This is my Thomas line. I have been trying to connect with someone regarding Nancy Tadlock, who I believe is the eldest daughter of Thomas Tadlock & Catherine David. I have been in contact with several of the Tadlock cousins researching Lewis Tadlock and they believe that the father of Thomas is the brother to Lewis.

John C. Tadlock, born 18 Jan 1835 in Kentucky, is the son of Lewis Tadlock and Margaret Crawford. Lewis (15 Jan 1801~14 Jul 1849) is the son of James Carter Tadlock and Susanna (?).

Thus ... if you have this line in your files ... this is to whom the Bible belongs (relates).

If I had the Bible, I would have given it to a family member of that line. The Bible, if memory serves me, was bought by a young lady living in Australia ... I think she used the name Willow. I never had or saw it.

I was responding to queries about the possible original owner of the Bible. Having a rather modest amount of material for the Tadlock/Tedlock family, I was able to identify the particular Tadlock of whom this Bible mentions.

    Sorry.

Jan actually bought the Bible for another (the "Willow" I mentioned in my first reply) and forwarded the Bible to her in Australia. Jan never heard again from her ... or received compensation for the purchase or the mailing if I might add.

You address your comments to Bob, but on the chance you are actually responding to my message instead ...

James McDowell was the 9th child of 10 children to Alexander Tadlock and Mary Ann Bullington.

Alexander was the 3rd child of 6 children to Joshua Thomas Tadlock and a Nancy (?).

Joshua was the 4th child of 9 children to Thomas C. Tadlock and Sarah Elizabeth Jane Jones.

Thomas C. Tadlock is the common ancestor to your line of Tadlocks and that of my wife.

His 1st child was Thomas M. Tadlock, who married Sarah Sally Sumner. The 2nd child (of 5 children) of that marriage was Thomas M. Tadlock Jr, who married Catherine David. My wife descends from their son Edward Jackson Tadlock.

    J.R.

Pardon me for jumping in here, but the Nancy Tadlock of Lewis Tadlock and Jane Blair married George Kennedy (9 Oct 1827 in Washington Co, TN)

Lewis married twice, first wife being Charlotte Padfield, and there were three children of that 1st marriage. I currently record the following information (in brief) about his seven children with second wife Jane Blair:

    1. John, abt 1788 to 1855, married 1st to Mary Horton, 2nd to Hester Clark and 3rd to Susannah Garland. [It is possible that John might have been a son of the first marriage to Charlotte]
    2. Mary, abt 1790, who married Michael H. Martin.
    3. Nancy Rosetta, abt 1792 to 1846, who married George Kennedy
    4. Margaret, 1794 to 12 Apr 1846, who married John Kennedy
    5. Sevier, 10 Mar 1801 to 6 Dec 1882, who married Mary Blair.
    6. Landon Carter, 1 Apr 1804 to 20 Mar 1876, who married Sarah Milburn.
    7. Martha D., 1813 to abt 1885, who married James T. Shields

Landon Carter was the father of Samuel K. Tadlock, who was the father of Mary Jane Tadlock, who married Aaron Smith.

I have on my family tree that Nancy Tadlocks parent indeed were Jane Blair and Lewis Tadlock, but I also have a Nancy J. Tadlock whose parents are Landon Carter Tadlock and Sarah Milburn. I have several Thomas Tadlocks without any spouses, its a possibility one of them was

Pardon me for jumping in, but a few months back I assisted another person (Kathy Woelfel) in researching that very question. Kathy is also a descedant of Ward Thomas and Nancy Tadlock.

I think I can say, with about as much confidence as I can with what documents and tracking we did, that the Nancy Tadlock that married Ward Thomas was the daughter of Thomas Tadlock Jr. Thomas Jr. lived in Illinois near Hardin, Commodore, Green and Edward Tadlock. Edward Tadlock had a daughter named Nancy as well (who would have been Hardin's sister ... or at least what is currently accepted), but that nancy married another person.

    Nancy's line is:

parents ... Thomas Tadlock Jr and Catherine David

Grandparents ... Thomas Tadlock and Sarah Sally Sumner

Greatgrandparents ... Thomas C. Tadlock and Sara Elizabeth Jane Jones

Greatgreatgrandparents ... Edward Tatlocke and Elizabeth (?)

Greatgreatgreatgrandparents ... William Tatlocke and Jane Spencer

I believe Kathy's email is on this site. I do not have much on the Thomas Line, but she does.

William GILLIHAN. there is speculation of who William's Father was but no documentation to prove it so we start with William.......William was born between 1744 and 1750 in Delaware or Virginia. - Possibly the son of John Gillihan, b. abt.  1700, d. abt. 1797, Military:  Dunsmore's War Military Service 1774  and Susannah Bracken, b. abt 1708, Married:  Before 1730. Daughter of: William Bracken & Hannah. d. 1749. (Some documentation at bottom of page)

His first wife was Nancy WALKER, daughter of, William WALKER of Virginia. They were married about 1782 in Washington Co. NC. - Second wife was; Frances TADLOCK, b. about 1757, married, June 10, 1787. Frances died, Oct. 17, 1843 in Polk Co. Missouri.
MILITARY SERVICE IN REVOLUTIONARY WAR, #S-38731, National Archives, 3 years service. Enlisted for 1 year in Virginia in the Spring of 1775, served 9 months. Re-enlisted for 3 years in Georgia and served in the state of SC. He was in the Battle of Savannah. He was a Private in a Company commanded by Captain Jarvis in the 5th. Regiment under Colonel Fluger of the SC line. William was discharged between 1 and 2 years at Charleston some months before the end of the War. After the War, William received a bounty land grant of 260 acres in SC, in the county of Greenville, on the banks of the Saulda River in 1790. A military pension of $8.00 per month commenced Sept. 27, 1819. William was one of the early pioneers of Washington Co. NC. which later became a part of Tennessee. These early settlers had no government and no protection from the Indians. They petitioned the State of NC. calling their area the State of Franklin. One of the signers of this petition was WILLIAM GILLIHAN. In the 1790 Census of Greenville, Dist. SC. William had a family of 2 males over 16, 2 males under 16 and 3 females. William was taxed in 1800 in Christian Co. Kentucky. William sold his land about 1800 and went to Tennesse with his Son, Clement. They settled in the Club Springs are of Smith Co. They were living there when William applied for his pension. William is buried in Smith Co. in the Club Springs area. His first Wife, Nancy Walker, Son, Clement and other members of the family are buried there in a family plot. The location has been long lost to present family members.
Note: From Nola Gillihan Webster: Due to the fact that I believe William was married to Frances Tadlock before he moved to Smith Co TN; I doubt that the above information about Nancy Walker's burial is correct. If I was searching for Nancy's grave, I'd search in the NC/SC areas where they lived. I don't think he got a divorce,  therefore she must have died there.
NOTE: The latest DAR magazine (April 1998) published addenda and corrections to their published Patriot Index.  It has this entry:

Could this be two different Williams? One who ended up in Smith County TN and one who went to Trigg County KY. Or is this a variation of just one William
and which one could it be?

Note: While we do not know for sure that this John, William, and Elizabeth Gillehan are our ancestors; there is a lot of things that indicate that they are related.
In 1763, John Gillehan and his daughter sold the land that they had inherited from 'Old' William Brackin. Elizabeth's husband sold his land at the same time. Apparently they all went together to North Carolina alnog with several Delaware families. [William Gillehan has vanished, as far as located records go!]
In 1779, William, Issac, Thomas, & James Brackin are on the Orange Co NC tax list for for 1,256 acreas. Ashford Keen purchased land from them.
About 1794, James Gillehan (Elizabeth's son) went to Sumner Co TN and purchased land.
In 1806, William Brackin purchased land in Sumner Co TN from his son James (Deed Book 4, p 116). In Nov 1821, Elizabeth Gillehan's will was probated (Gallatin, Sumner Co, TN Will Book # 1).
In about 1830, Ashford, William, James & John Keen moved to Wayne County IL and settled in Hickory Hill Township at the site which later becames know as Keenville, IL.. [Elizabeth Gillehan-Bracken's son-in-law and grandchildren.]

    1. William BRACKEN, b.  Before 1675 in Lancashire or Yorktown, England .  d. April 8, 1749 in New Castle, Delaware.  Emigration: August 25, 1699 Reached Philadelphia aboard the ship, Britannia from Liverpool. Property July 14, 1702 Requested a land grant of 100 acres near Red Clay Creek, Newcastle, Deaware. Property 1726-1727 Gave 200 acres to son, Thomas, 150 acres to son, John April 8, 1749 Will was drawn. December 28, 1749 Will was probated. Married: Hannah Unknown. 2. Susannah, married:  John Gillehan  ( b:WFT Est 1682-1709 - d:WFT Est 1736-1796 )

One Theory: 1749 (Abt): William Gillehan is born, 1749 (Abt): Susannah Bracken dies, It is possible that about 1750  the widower ,John Gillehan, marries another woman and  that  Clemmons Gillihan is born to this union. - This is pure speculation, because no marriage record has been found.  However, no other possible father has been found and there are many indications that William and Clemmons are related.

    children: William Gillehan  ( b:Est 1726-1744 - d:WFT Est 1731-1829 )
Elizabeth Gillehan ( aft 1730-bef Nov 1821) spouse: William Brackin (abt 1720-1808)  [He was her 1st cousin.]

Elizabeth BRACKEN - January 5, 1819 Will - Widow of William Bracken deceased. Daughter Polly Keen, wife of Ashford Keen, tract land I now = live on. Appoints Addison Foster executioner. Proved Nov 1821

'Old' Willaim Bracken/Brackin was probably the first of his line in America. He reached Philadelphia PA on Aug 25, 1699, aboard the ship 'Britannia' from Liverpool England. William Bracken witnessed the will of George Goodsell July 25, 1699, while aboard this ship. Due to sickness aboard the ship,a committee was appointed at the monthly meeting of Friends in Philadelphia August 25, 1699, "to assist the sick and weak passagers from Liverpool." Apparently William Bracken was appointed a recipient for on August 29, 1714 the Friends in their meeting resolved "whereas 30 shillings were lent to William Bracken, he being now able to repay, therefore Anthony Morris and William Hudson are appointed to write to him so he might return the money again for the use of other poor Friends."
Although the above suggests he was a Friend, this family was connected with Holy Trinity (Old Swedes Church) in Wilmington, Delaware. This was a Swedish Lutheran congregation until 1790. John Brackin, his son, and his family seemed to have been Presbyterians in North Carolina and was so during the early years in Sumner County, Tennessee.
There is no further record of William Bracken after he arrived in Philadelphia until July 14, 1702 when he requested a  land grant of 100 acres near Red Clay Creek (New Castle Co., Del.).

All men in family signed the charter for the formation of the State of
Franklin.  FYI, this state was in existance for only about 4 years with its
capitol at Greeneville, TN.  It wasn't recognized by the Federal Government
and the land was returned to North Carolina.  Shortly thereafter what was
Franklin became Southwest Territory south of the Ohio River and then
evolved into the state of Tennessee.
